MES & Recipe Design Consulting for Pharma & Biotech

MES We Can

We design, implement and run Manufacturing Execution Systems for pharma and biotech manufacturers — turning paper-based recipes into fully digital, audit-ready production.

Our Expertise

Four disciplines, one goal: production data that flows without paper, without gaps and without guesswork.

Recipe Design

From simple weighing and dispensing instructions to a fully paperless recipe connecting ERP, MES, equipment, warehouse, automation and serialization — we design recipes that fit how your shop floor actually works.

MES Lifecycle

Going live is just the beginning. We manage the system and configuration lifecycle, provide first-level shop-floor support, and evolve your recipes as your process matures.

Training

Your people run the system every day, so we train them properly — operating, managing and configuring MES, tailored to the roles and needs of your organization.

Consulting

From a green-field digitization strategy to integrating business processes into an existing landscape, we bring hands-on experience to every stage of the conversation.

Reto Omlin

Reto began his career in the year 1996 at F. Hoffmann - La Roche and worked at the shop floor for the media preparation, fermentation and downstream processing.

Mid 2005, he started the journey as a recipe designer in Simatic Batch for the fermentation department of the new Avastin factory, after joining the project team to design the production center.

Beginning 2008 he moved to the freshly built MES team in the same department to design the BioMES (based on Siemens MES) and enabling one of the first fully paperless production at Roche.

Early 2012 Reto moved from Basel to Kaiseraugst into the MES team where he stayed until 2022. His main tasks covered PMX recipe design for the compounding area, release upgrades, system enhancements, conceptual work, first level support, audit representative, organization of the global user community, technical lead for PharmaSuite rollout projects in the packaging area, PharmaSuite recipe design etc.

From 2022 until early 2023 he was taking over the role as the product owner for PharmaSuite until he left F. Hoffmann - La Roche by end of march to raise his own company Omescon.

Reto is still supporting as a freelancer the GTDC / CSC PharmaSuite implementation project and the Kaiseraugst ERP upgrade projects for F. Hoffmann - La Roche in terms of MES integration, always following his vision to enable a fully paperless and exceptionless production for the shop floor.

Tony Omlin

Tony completed his commercial apprenticeship at Migros Genossenschaft Basel, gaining versatile experience across departments such as Supply Chain Management, Accounting, and Public Relations. During this time, he developed a robust technical foundation by managing procurement processes and purchasing operations within SAP, effectively blending operational efficiency with core business principles.

Building on his Federal Vocational Baccalaureate from zB. Zentrum Bildung, Tony joined Omescon GmbH as a Finance Administrator. In this hybrid role, he oversees financial operations, budgeting, and strategic negotiations. His hands-on accounting background has sharpened his ability to merge precise financial analysis with structured, process-oriented thinking.

Since July 2024, Tony has been pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW). By specializing in Managerial Data Science, he is deepening his expertise in leveraging data to bridge the gap between operational finance and strategic planning, ultimately driving measurable organizational success.

Tony is driven by the conviction that well-structured financial processes are the backbone of any successful organization. He is committed to building these frameworks through a combination of rigorous analytical standards and forward-thinking strategy.

Paul Varava

MES Specialist

  • Processes Development
  • Programming

Paul Varava

Paul (or Pavel) studied inorganic and organic chemistry at the LMU Munich, finishing 2018. During this time, he spent a year abroad in Taipei, a half year in Tokyo and a half year in Boston, complementing his studies. He performed a high throughput screening using macrocyclic binders against the Zika virus protease, investigated one-step polyphosphorylation chemistry to design RNase inhibitors, and collected international experience during his placements.

Until the end of 2022, he worked on the synthetic chemistry of nitrous oxide and N-heterocyclic olefins. In the framework of his research, he became the first person to make stable diazoolefins, isolated, and characterized them. He explored their diverse reactivity and contributed to ten peer-reviewed scientific publications. He is cited over 300 times so far. While working on his chemistry, he discovered his passion for programming and started to learn Python on the side.

After his PhD, Pavel joined Bachem AG in Bubendorf, Switzerland to continue his journey in chemistry relevant for pharmaceutical applications. He worked in various customer and internal projects designing and optimizing processes. With a focus on downstream development, he led teams laterally, worked in the lab, crafted client reports, presented his results and built Jupyter Notebooks, using his Python skills. While he also worked on upstream projects, he started to study C in his free time, deciding that for his future career he would like to combine chemistry with digital tools and coding. Pavel left Bachem in May 2025.

After a 2-month career break and programming self-studies, he joined Omescon as an MES Specialist. Today, he works on implementing solutions for digital processes, building on top of his background in chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and coding.

Pavel follows his dream of a paper-free, digital world in chemistry and the pharmaceutical industry. He believes that humans and machines have different strengths that can perfectly complement each other. With this conviction at heart, he seeks to contribute to a world built this way. As a decisive step in this direction, the integration of ERP and MES is his current focus.

FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most often. Don't see yours? Just ask.

What does "Omescon" mean?
"O" is the starting letter of the founders family name Omlin
"mes" I hope you know what this means
"con" stands for consulting
Where are you based and where do you operate?
We are based in Basel Switzerland right at the border to France and Germany. Currently, we are operating in the north-western part of switzerland, but are open for any challenge outside of it.
What does it cost to work with you?
The cost depends on the scope and length of engagement. Our pricing reflects the total cost of a project or a day rate where appropriate.
I've heard about "PRS", what is the benefit of using it?
In a traditional way, MES recipes where specified in a strict csv manner trying to define the technical recipe on "paper" first. As this is a very slow process and not giving any benefit, the PRS (Process Requirement specification" was born. The benefits are huge. Everybody is able to read and create the document, as its focus is the process from a business point of view and not a technical document, only accessible to people with a technical background which is hard to review for business and quality. Even for this web page, we've decide to create the specification in the same way as a showcase.
Please have a look at the WRS (Website Requirement Specification).
Do you distribute software?
We can consult you choosing a product. There are some ideas to create our own software products and this would be published on the website when available.
